Antonio Conte is the strong favourite to replace Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid but the club’s captain, Sergio Ramos, doesn’t sound like he fancies working with the Italian.
Sunday’s 5-1 El Clasico thumping inflicted by Barcelona has proven to be the final straw for Lopetegui, who came in as Zinedine Zidane’s replacement after he left his post following a third successive Champions League trophy.
Conte would appear to be the most logical appointment out of all those available, but it seems like Ramos isn’t so keen.
“Respect is earned, it is not imposed. Neither a name nor another,” the Spaniard said, as per the Daily Star.
With Lopetegui relieved of his duties, Santiago Solari will be taking temporary charge.
Solari, who joined Real as a player from rivals Atletico in 2000 and went on to win the Champions League and two La Liga titles, was previously working as manager of the club’s Castilla side.
In Sunday’s devastating defeat at the Camp Nou, Barca fans were giving Ramos a whole lot of grief.
“Sergio Ramos son of a b*tch” was the chant by a section of cules but Gerard Pique asked them to stop the song by wagging his fingers.
