The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, has expressed why he feels Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid to join Juventus.

Ronaldo has joined up with the Italian giants on a four-year contract. It’s a transfer deal that reported to cost around £100 million, and it’s likely to be one of the most sensational moves of the summer.

And Tebas has said of why he thinks the star left the club this summer.

Via Mundo Deportivo, he said: “Ronaldo has gone for a fiscal issue. In Italy, due to the new regulations, it will charge more net of the gross than in Spain. Real Madrid had a hard time competing with that and there will be more reasons, but that’s a very big one,” he said.

But he has no concerns Ronaldo’s departure will affect the revenue of La Liga.

“A few years ago I would have worried about losing so many stars at once , maybe a nine out of ten. Now, with the brand image we have, I worry about a 4 out of 10. ”

Ronaldo finished a fairly disappointing World Cup campaign with Portugal, but can look forward to his venture in Serie A – the league which the 33-year-old is looking conquer, having stormed the Premier League and La Liga in his career already.

The comparisons to Lionel Messi will never end. Fans of Ronaldo say he deserves the title of being the ‘greatest ever’ because he has been at multiple clubs and done brilliantly in every one, whereas Messi has remained at Barcelona his whole career.
